DE-7184 Display Unit

Case study 35 Years & Still Running, Tecalemit Roller Brake Tester

Posted on

Tecalemit Garage Equipment has been involved with testing vehicle braking systems since the first introduction of the requirement to inspect brakes as part of the MOT test in 1968.

Thousands of Tecalemit roller brake testers have been sold since then. And some of those earlier models are still performing reliably many years later.

Brian Cosgrove is one of a team of professional Tecalemit engineers who are very familiar with many of our oldest machines.

Here Brian goes underground to undertake routine maintenance on a Tecalemit DE-7184 unit dating from 1987. It doesn’t take much maths to work out that during its 35 years, this Tecalemit Roller Brake Tester will have carried out more than 50,000 brake tests.

“The units are very well built. With the correct service and maintenance plan, the machines can be accurately calibrated to DVSA standards using the correct Tecalemit calibration equipment.”

The Tecalemit DE-7194 was hydraulically operated and very reliable, as we can see from the quantity of these models still in daily use across Great Britain.

There are still hundreds of these Tecalemit DE-7194 units in daily operation, although the numbers are gradually declining as MOT stations change hands or upgrade to Automated Test Lane specification.

Technology has moved on, as you would expect during 35 years of MOT brake testing. Today’s Tecalemit roller brake testers are electronically controlled, essential to enable connection to the DVSA’s MTS infrastructure and allow the transmission of brake test results.

The team at Tecalemit are highly experienced in undertaking the conversion process. Our experts can advise precisely what needs to be done to install the latest Tecalemit DE-9419 (Class 4) or DE-9719 (Class 4 & 7) units. Motorcycle testing (Class 1 & 2) can also be added to the latest Tecalemit units to extend their revenue-earning opportunities further.

If you are considering upgrading your MOT brake tester, it is, as they say, “a no-brainer” to choose a Tecalemit unit. Our history and legacy say it all. Our modern units can be accompanied by up to five years of warranty, servicing and calibrations to ensure your new Tecalemit brake tester is positioned to last the next 35 years.
