DVSA Issue Updated Vehicle Database Fo...

May 2022

The DVSA have just released their latest vehicle database update for Commercial Vehicle Roller Brake Testers.  All DVSA Authorised Testing Facilities (ATF’s) have until 1st November 2022 to install this latest version of the Designated Test Programme Data (Dtp) in order to ensure that vehicle tests on a range of additional models can be conducted in accordance with model specific test routines.

The latest DVSA update includes new Dtp numbers 10090 to 10238. Dtp 10238 relates to a 2 axle Citroen ridged, 3800kg GVW, (Solo) parking on axle 2, with the split service brake as the nominated secondary.

The Tecalemit DE/9000 series of Commercial Vehicle Roller Brake Tester are the models of choice for numerous ATF’s and Commercial Vehicle Operators.  Tecalemit’s latest version, the DE/9700 is particularly popular for new and replacement installations due to its high capacity 15kw motors and fully galvanised roller bed, which provides superior corrosion resistance and durability.  Tecalemit DE/9700 users can check for existence of these additional numbers on Commercial Vehicle Roller Brake Tester database to confirm when the latest update has been installed.

Outside of the MOT test, the importance of regular period brake tests for commercial vehicles must not be underestimated.  A brake test report produced on a Tecalemit DE/9700 report can tell you if the vehicle has met various overall braking efficiencies such as that for service, secondary and park. The report can also identify individual braking aspects where preventative action can be undertaken to avoid further problems that could result in brake failure. This includes bind, time lag, ovality, imbalance and maximum force. Vehicle details and weight imposed on each axle is also shown on each brake test report.

Contact Tecalemit Service Operations on 01752 219100 for full details on how to schedule your database update.

Are You Ready For 'Super September' MO...

May 2022

Whilst the UK garage network lives with all of the disruption to MOT expiry dates caused by the 2020 Coronavirus 6 month MOT expiry extensions, it is worth remembering that 2019 was a very strong year for new vehicle registrations’.

These 2019 registered vehicles are now rolling through MOT test centre doors for their first MOT test at 3 years of age.   Add into this volume, the distorted renewal dates from vehicles that deferred their 2020 MOT renewal by six months and September is predicted to be a ‘Super September’ for MOT demand.

If you have been considering making MOT testing a part of your consumer proposition, then now is the time to start your application process to become a fully operational MOT test centre in-time for September’s bumper demand.

Tecalemit’s team of MOT Equipment Specialists can help you navigate the entire process, from Workshop MOT Bay layout, through to the DVSA’s VT01 application process, site preparation and equipment installation.

Looking for a reason to invest in a CV...

October 2021

Brake efficiency tests could be one of the most critical parts of your preventative maintenance routines. It is recommended that a calibrated roller brake tester be used during the safety inspection to record both brake efficiencies and overall braking performance. However, many fleet operators still outsource this vital activity, resulting in a reduction of the vehicle's availability on top of the cost of testing.

The Tecalemit DE/9700 Commercial Vehicle brake tester is DVSA approved, designed to meet the exacting requirements for a vehicle inspection centre. This precision roller brake tester can be installed as part of a standalone application or as an Authorised Testing Facility (ATF) lane. In addition, it meets the DSVA’s connected requirements and can be used for Class 4 & 7 MOT testing, extending the range of vehicles a workshop can handle.

By carrying out brake tests in-house, without sending a driver and vehicle to an external test centre, you could increase the availability of the vehicle to work. To discover how you could benefit from a Tecalemit brake tester, to gain more control over your fleet, contact us today.

Making light work of heavy lifting for...

October 2021

Sidlaw MOT Centre is a well-established, family business and one of the only garages in Dundee to specialise in Class 4 & 7 MOTs for commercial vehicles. From their roots in coach hire, Sidlaw’s had their own in-house maintenance team which expanded into offering their mechanical expertise to the public and other local businesses, and now forms the main part of their operation. Sidlaw’s aim of delivering the best customer service has resulted in them carrying out service and repair work for some big names, like Asda, for example. When Sidlaw’s decided it was time to invest in another lift, they spoke to their local Euro Car Parts garage equipment specialist.

Together with James McDermott, Tecalemit’s Sales Manager for Scotland, they discussed the options to suit the available space. They decided on Tecalemit’s SF/9825 25t 4-Post Commercial Vehicle lift. This heavy-duty lift features platforms that incorporate a unique design and heavy gauge materials, ensuring total lifting safety combined with unrivalled durability and performance. The design features include a drive-through width of 3.5m between the columns, allowing access for vehicles, such as coaches, with fixed mirrors. As soon our expert installation team had finished, Sidlaw’s put the lift into action, easily raising a large coach.

Modern pits allow technicians to inspe...

August 2021

Tecalemit Garage Equipment provides a comprehensive range of vehicle lifting solutions for commercial vehicles, but there are times when a different method of dealing with vehicle inspection and repair may be required. Here we have outlined a variety of features and benefits of our range of inspection pits.

A modern inspection pit can provide a viable alternative for commercial vehicle (CV) workshops. The current range of pits from Tecalemit provide a completely different environment to the old brick and concrete pits that were commonly found in commercial vehicle workshops of the past. These modern prefabricated steel pits provide many advantages over alternative construction methods. They are specifically designed as load bearing structures which enable the safe and efficient use of Tecalemit commercial vehicle pit jacks. With pit jacks featuring a typical axle load capacity of 20 tonnes up to special 50 tonne heavy duty units, the Tecalemit range of commercial vehicle pit jacks can be contained securely in order to provide an effective over-pit lifting capability.

When installing a prefabricated inspection pit, the jacking beam rail will be built into the design of the pit and the pit jack runs along on this dedicated rail. With the addition of an air operated Tecalemit pneumatic pit jack, together with a range of lifting accessories such as chassis crutches, differential case adaptors and spreader beams, the ease of the over-pit lifting operation can be further improved. The connection of an air supply to the inspection pit can also serve to provide the facility with oil extraction via in-pit oil drainer to deliver a safe method of handling contaminated waste oils. The modern vehicle pit can also be designed and constructed to feature tailored recesses to store oil drainers, as well as toolboxes, in order to keep the working area safe and free from hazards.

The steel pit tub provides a secure watertight environment, while the tough epoxy coated surface allows easy cleaning. This combines to create a durable, safe solution whilst creating an agreeable working environment. A range of pit lighting options helps to further enhance the environment, with the surface finish of the pits providing good light dispersion to benefit the technician. The pit tub can also be fabricated to include purpose designed housings for the Tecalemit DE/7353 pit play detector to enable the testing of commercial vehicle steering and suspension components. The DE/7353 is approved for use in DVSA authorised testing facilities (ATF) which enables CV fleet operators to undertake their own pre-MOT steering and suspension testing.

Tecalemit’s DE/9700 roller brake tester can be used to create a definitive CV testing facility which allows operators to test their vehicle to MOT standards while undertaking their own periodic brake safety and efficiency tests. So which vehicles is Tecalemit Garage Equipment’s Commercial Vehicle Brake Tester (CVBT) suitable for? Well, our DE/9700 CVBT accommodates testing of HGV’s, PSV’s, trailers, in fact most commercial vehicles. The brake tester’s innovative design means it is also suitable for testing cars and light commercials all on one machine if required. This in-ground brake tester delivers a solid solution which can be adapted to meet your testing requirements.

The benefits of the Tecalemit’s CV brake tester include:

  • DVSA database included
  • Easy exit, bi-directional rollers
  • Can be installed spanning pit lane
  • Powerful, soft-start 15kW motors
  • Wireless control unit for one-person operation
  • DVSA approved for ATF and MOT test lane installations

So as you can see Tecalemit’s range of inspection pits offer a modern, safe option for CV workshops. Our pits provide a sense of security where some people may feel lifts are too dependent upon their lifting ability, which can be particularly unnerving when working under some large commercial vehicles. As we have shown there are many benefits to designing a workshop with an inspection pit, particularly since the arrival of prefabricated pits has overcome many of the downsides found in commercial vehicle workshops of the past. This has resulted the costs of inspecting, maintaining and testing vehicles with pits a more viable option, especially when combined a play detector and brake tester.

Tecalemit’s Commercial Vehicle Brake Testers are not just about carrying out HGV, Bus or Coach annual testing as part of an Authorised Test Facility (ATF). In the latest edition of Transport Operator we explore the benefits of installing a Roller Brake Tester for periodic safety checks. Routine safety inspections of commercial vehicles should be carried out on a regular basis and braking test needs to form a part of each safety inspection. Tecalemit’s DE/9700 commercial vehicle roller brake tester allows operators to build their own fleet database, automatically recording vehicle test results and reducing the administrative activity of creating a records system up in the office.

COVID-19 – Operational Update 24th Mar...

24th March 2020

Following yesterday evenings announcements by the Prime Minister, the team at Tecalemit Garage Equipment have reviewed our scope of activity in order to protect our supply chain staff. The decision has been taken to cease field-based activities from today.

Engineer Attendance

Monday 23rd March was the last day that Tecalemit Engineers were able attend site to undertake installations, repair, preventative maintenance and calibrations.

Installations that have already commenced and not finished by 24th March will be 'frozen' until restrictions are removed.

Preventive Maintenance visits that are already scheduled from the 24th March onwards will be postponed; these will be re-scheduled when restrictions are lifted.

Equipment Breakdowns cannot be progressed until after the ‘restrictions to movement’ have been lifted. This applies to equipment that is under warranty and outside of warranty. Any issues of equipment failing within warranty must still be logged with our service office via email - service@tecalemit.co.uk We will then process this as appropriate when restrictions are lifted in the order the calls have been received.

DVSA Equipment Calibrations that are already scheduled and due after the 24th March will be re-scheduled. We are working with the DVSA via the GEA to determine how to deal with DVSA MOT Equipment that 'locks out' if it is not calibrated on the required date.

Field Sales Operations

All of the Tecalemit field Sales Team are available to help with product enquiries, but will not be able to conduct site visits at this time. It is recognised that some businesses may turn their attention to future equipment needs and start asking distributors for price and specification. We will also continue to process and issue quotations and produce ‘indicative layouts’ for MOT Equipment.

Tecalemit and its staff would like to thank you for your continued support during these restricted measures, we understand it may also be challenging for yourselves and any assistance we can provide will be done to the best of our ability.

Operational Procedure Update – COVID-19

19th March 2020

During this period of rapidly changing conditions in which we all find ourselves, we want to assure all our customers and contacts that we will continue to support you.

Tecalemit, like many other businesses today, is currently facing unparalleled challenges and the main focus is on keeping our team healthy and protected while supporting our customers as best we can. As the situation develops, with government and NHS advice changing, we are regularly adjusting our operational arrangements for our staff, suppliers and contractors to remain operational and providing a service to you.

We are actively managing our supply channels, logistics and field based resource so that we can continue to fulfil product orders and provide our calibration and repair services. As circumstances change we will keep you updated on the adaptions to our working practices we will make.

We appreciate that, at the same time, you will also be dealing with your own operational challenges. Whilst we have freedom of movement within the UK, we will continue to visit customer sites and we will be deploying distancing techniques.

The Tecalemit team will be available, as always, to provide support and answer any questions or queries that you may have. Please do get in touch with us if you require any further information.

DVSA Extending Connected Equipment to ...

February 2020

After the introduction of Connected Equipment with Roller Brake Testers in October 2019, the DVSA has now confirmed next piece of MOT equipment that needs to meet their new requirements. Connected Decelerometers will formally be part of the Connected Equipment directive as of February 2020. This will be mandatory for Class 3, 4 & 7 MOT centres only at the moment, however other classes may be included in the future.

Following the same procedure as roller brake testers, the DVSA will now only approve new applications for MOT centres that include an approved Connected Decelerometer from this date. This change also applies MOT centres replacing or updating MOT equipment in existing stations as they also have to follow the Connected Equipment route.

Tecalemit are pleased to confirm that we are one of just six manufacturers that can currently offer an Approved Decelerometer for Class 3, 4, & 7 testing. To find out more about these new, connected Decelerometers call us on 01752 219111 or talk to your local Area Sales Manager.

Tecalemit gains approval for DVSA MTS ...

September 2019

As it has been announced, going forward new MOT equipment will need to be able to connect to the MOT testing service (MTS).

Currently as of the 1st October 2019, anyone installing a new roller brake tester will need to make sure it's a model that can connect to the MTS. This includes purchasing one as a replacement for an existing brake tester.

The DVSA are doing this to modernise testing, save time as well as reducing the risk of error and fraud.

Tecalemit are happy to confirm that we are one of just six manufacturers that can currently offer an Approved Roller Brake Tester for Class III, IV, & VII testing.

Tecalemit’s Connected Brake Testers are suitable for ATL, OPTL and standard test lanes, with a range of options to suit all workshops and budgets.

To find out more about these new, connected brake testers call us on 01752 219111 or talk to your local Area Sales Manager.
